The Main Thing We Should Be Giving Up For Our Faith.
How do we juggle our Faith with everything else going on in our lives. We all have goals and hobbies, but are those the things we should be seeking after? In this article I will tell you what I think is the main thing that we should be giving up for the growth and benefit of our own Faith. So if you are feeling like your faith is lacking, then continue on for some day to day ideas for implementing this in your life starting TODAY!
The Main Thing We Should Be Giving Up Is…Our Time!
Bible Verse: Matthew 6:33 - “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Life is so distracting! There is so much pulling at our time during the days. Between jobs, families, hobbies, goals, responsibilities, or entertainment, there is always something that we can be doing. It is SO easy to get lost in the busyness of our day to day lives, that we frequently loose sight of the kingdom of God. That busyness is hard to control when we fill up our schedules SO packed, that we never have extra time. Also once that busyness is there, it’s hard to eliminate it. What we fill out time with is what we are letting be our “kingdom.” We can either be giving our time to the “world kingdom” or we can be giving up of our time to the kingdom of God. It is a constant moment to moment choice that we have to make. Are we scheduling daily time for our relationships with God? We we leaving extra time for serving others? God’s kingdom is an upside-down one. We are supposed to put God first and others second, and ourselves last. If our time is only focused on our own wants and desires, then we are not living in that upside-down kingdom at all. It’s a hard truth of life! To truly live a life that is in the upside-down kingdom, we must first be WILLING to give up our time to grow in our relationship with God, and be willing to give up our time to serve others. That is why the main thing that we should be giving up for our faith is our time!
Ideas For Giving Up Our Time:
Start each day in prayer. When we make it a habit then doing this will help us to think about God more.
Put a post-it note on the mirror in your bathroom, reminding yourself to MAKE TIME for Him!
Sit down and write out your daily schedule, and plan where is the best time in each day for Bible Study, Prayer, and serving others.
Wear a bracelet or necklace to remind yourself to make more time for God.
Make a place for your Bible study or prayer in your house. This allows you to be reminded of needing to do that each time you see that spot. It could be as simple as a spot at the kitchen table, or you can turn an old closet into a prayer and Bible study room like I did.
Have a friend, Church member, family member, or Spouse ask you daily about your Bible study and serving opportunities.
Set a timer on your phone for how long you spend on social media, or watching on Netflix. Don’t just waste time.
Keep a Spiritual Journal, where each day you write down the things you succeeded at or failed at in your relationship with God and with others.
Refocus hobbies or activities that you are already doing to be ones to increase your relationship with God. If you like crafting, then start listening to the Bible or podcasts while working. If you love to run, then listen to Church hymns or spend that time in prayer as you are running. Whatever you want to do, add Christ into it. If you can’t do those things during the activity, then consider eliminating it to make more time for God.
Challenge yourself to talk to more people at your congregation than you normally do, it might take more time to do that before leaving the building, but it will grow in your relationship and service to others.
Conclusion:
Be brave!! Seek the Lord’s kingdom FIRST, and honor Him through giving up some of our time each day. Will you take this challenge with me this week? Let’s give God our best this week in our time. Will you make the world your kingdom, or will you seek after God’s kingdom today?
