Hide God’s Word

This week I wanted to cover the subject of how we can Hide God’s Word………In Our Hearts! Beside the title, I don’t mean that we should suppress God’s Word, but the title of this blog refers to Psalm 119:11 “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” As with ever blog that I post, I want all of them to be actually useful for the people that find them. My goal with each and every blog is to give people actual tools or steps to put our faith into action with each and every subject that we cover. My goal is to help other women take their faith outside of the Church building, and bring it into their everyday lives. This week we are going to cover 3 ways that you can Hide God’s Word In Our Hearts, starting TODAY! So if you want to learn how to hide God’s beautiful love story into your heart, then continue on with me!

#1. Write It Out:

Bible Verse: Matthew 6:21 “for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Whether you grew up in regular school or being homeschooled, at some point or another you were asked to write something out by hand several times, to help you retain the information. I remember vividly in 3rd grade having to sit in class during recess, and writing the line “I will not talk in class,” over and over again. That was the one and only time, that I had to do that because the more I had to write it the more I understood that I wasn’t supposed to talk during our lessons. Isn’t the idea of writing out something over and over again, for the benefit of retaining the information? So what if we use this same method, but in a positive light! What if you set down in a cozy chair, with your favorite blanket, a hot cup of tea, a notebook, and started handwriting out the Bible? Wouldn’t that be the best time spent?!

I know for me, when I started the journey of REALLY growing my faith, writing out the scripture by hand, and then looking at things I that I learned from that text had a radical changed in my own faith. One of my teachers, Carla Moore, from Bear Valley Bible Institute has a personal ministry for this very thing, and that is what started my journey to really hiding the Words of God onto my heart.

Now, you don’t have to feel pressured to use this Bible writing plan, but I will HIGHLY suggest using it if you are just also starting the journey of hiding God’s Word on your heart. Carla, has already planned out the whole year, and has made the printable document available for everyone to download. But, if you don’t have access to a printer, then she also lists on her blog where you can order it. You are also free to just grab a notebook and your Bible and starting out the text out straight from your own Bible, and that is perfectly fine also. Either way, writing it out has really made me start remembering what God’s Word says, and isn’t that the goal for our relationship with God? #2. Memorize The Scripture:

Bible Verse: Proverbs 3:3-4 “Don’t let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor, and good understanding in the sight of God and man.”

Growing up, Scripture memory was never a big part of my life. I remember a few times as a kid where I had to memorize a Bible verse or two for Sunday morning Bible class at Church to earn a prize. But those Bible verses never stuck with me, which is sad, because I know that was supposed to hide God’s Words in my heart, but it didn’t stick. What stuck from all of my years attending Bible classes, was the songs. So over the past 5-6 years, my husband and I have been taking Bible Scriptures that we actually need to hide in our hearts, and turning them into easy and catchy songs. One of our shared hobbies is a love to write and compose music, and we turned that passion into a focused God centered one by making it easy for others to use also. That was the moment, that I started being able to quote Bible verses during the ladies monthly Bible classes, or even in conversation. I was teaching Ladies classes and Ladies Days with confidence because I didn’t have to worry about turning to the Bible verses when I needed to quickly. I KNEW them, they were in my heart, and quick to bring to memory. I never knew growing up how much actually putting God’s Words to memory will help me in my day to day life.

Now, please, put aside any excuses that you might have. If you tell me that you don’t have a good memory, then I want you to understand that I have the worst memory ever! I can’t remember names, and since I had our kids, my mom brain has been so bad. So, if I can do it then you can, songs make it SO easy to remember things. If you want to challenge yourself to remember some important scripture, then you can check out the Bible verses from our first album in the button below. This album is called “Believer’s Basics,” and these are 28 Christian values that every New Testament Christian should have every single day. We made them intending that every day during the month, you use one verse, and you challenge yourself to learn the song, and then put that value into action during the day. When you are singing it frequently and choosing to use that value (example: loving others) then you will let stay hidden in your heart, and that will overflow into actions. Also I know that there are so many other people who write songs for Scripture memory, but my only suggestion is that you pick songs that are the WHOLE Bible verse, and also have the verse reference. That is what will help you, where you not only know the whole verse, but can tell you where it’s located at also.

#3. Pray For Action:

Bible Verse: James 1:22-25 “But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror; for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect Torah of freedom and continues, not being a hearer who forgets but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.”

After I was on my journey of Scripture Writing and memorizing different Scriptures, I found myself realizing the importance of spending time in Scripture and letting it take root in my heart. And in our lives, as Christians, when we are wanting to improve our relationship with God or our understanding of something, then we pray about it. That is how our Bible study should also be, we need to pray before our Bible study asking for God to let us take out His intended meaning of the passage, instead of trying to “force” it to say what we guess it says. Then we also need to pray after the Bible study, for the specific things we learned during that study. We can always learn something about God or about mankind, and those things we can ask in prayer for God to help us learn also. Like the verse above, we have to be more than just hearers! We have to take the information and hide it in our hearts, and then it will outpour through our actions. That is how we should always study the Scriptures, through intentional prayer about those studies, to ask for God to write those lessons on our own hearts! So when you set down to do your daily Bible study remember these simple ways to hide The Word in our hearts:

  1. Pray Before Your Bible Study

  2. Pray For Things That Sticks Out To You In The Text

  3. Pray For Transformation After Every Study

Conclusion:

Bible Verse: Psalm 119:11 “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
