8 Lies About Spiritual Growth
The world feeds us lies as to what spiritual growth looks like. But how do we know that they are lies? We must learn to use the Bible as our guide for exposing all of the false worldly advice that we are bombarded with on a daily basis. With most of us still thinking about the New Year and strengthening our faith in the year 2025, that is why I will be covering 8 of the common lies that the world tells us about spiritual growth. We will also see a Bible passage for each lie, to understand what the Bible has to say about that subject. This year, let us tune our ears to only listen to the True Words of God!
Spiritual Growth Happens Suddenly
2 Peter 3:18 - “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”
Spiritual Growth Is About Knowing All The Facts
James 1:22 - “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
Spiritual Growth Makes You Feel Good About Yourself
Philippians 2:3-4 - “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,”
Spiritual Growth Means No More Struggles
James 1:2-4 - “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
Spiritual Growth Can Happen Without A Church
Hebrews 10:24-25 - “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Spiritual Growth Only Happens At A Certain Age
Psalm 92:14 - “They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green,”
Spiritual Growth Is Never Sinning Again
1 John 1:8-9 - “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
Spiritual Growth Is A Competition
Galatians 6:4-5 - “But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.”
Conclusion:
So today, will we fall trap for any of these lies that the world whispers to us? Will we take our spiritual growth seriously this year? Will we work on our hearts, our serving, our prayers, and our time spent in God’s Word? This can be our year to start over and to put God first in our lives, if only we actually prioritize Him. Will we choose Him this year?
