10 Reasons Why We Are NOT Enough


Have you ever felt like the world is screaming at you to be perfect? To be strong enough, to be brave enough, to be attractive enough, or to be rich enough. We are pulled in so many different directions to be perfect “enough” for the world. Have you heard the phrase “I am enough?” This is a common phrase used to bring comfort to people when they are feeling overwhelmed by the world’s standards, but does the Bible tell us that we are actually “enough?” Today, we will be diving into 10 of the ways that the Bible tells us that we are NOT enough, and how being “not enough” is part of the human experience. We are not ever called to be perfect, but we do have a Heavenly Father who IS more than enough for all of us! So if you are feeling the pressures of perfection right now, read on, to find some comfort in how its okay to not be “enough” for the world.


  1. We Are All Sinners

    • Romans 3:23-24 - “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.”

  2. We Can’t Earn Our Way

    • Ephesians 2:8-9 - “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

  3. We Have Deceitful Hearts And Emotions

    • Jeremiah 17:9 - “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”

  4. We Are Limited In Knowledge

    • Isaiah 55:8 - “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.”

  5. We Need God’s Power

    • John 15:5 - “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”

  6. We Are Mortal

    • Genesis 3:19 - “By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

  7. We Can’t Control Our Circumstances

    • Proverbs 19:21 - “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.”

  8. We Need God’s Guidance

    • Proverbs 3:5 - “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”

  9. We Fall For Temptations

    • 1 Peter 5:8 - “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

  10. We Don’t Know His Plans

    • Romans 11:33 - “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!”


Conclusion:

So today, if you find yourself feeling like you will never be enough for the world, then you are in the best company. God knows that we are not perfect, but He still loves us. He gives us a new chance to be part of His family each and everyday. We will never be perfect or “enough,” and that is to help point us towards God. Because God will always be more than enough for all who come to Him!! So, no, we are NOT enough, but God IS! Will you find comfort in His perfection and protection today?
